Discrimination
Discrimination is an
unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice. In the
workplace, many people are suffered from different types of discrimination.
What kinds of discrimination can happen in the workplace? Here are five
different types of discrimination a person can experience in the workplace:
- Age Discrimination
- Disability Discrimination
- Religious Discrimination
- Sexual Harassment
- Race, Color, and Sex
For myself, it was not
in the workplace, but I have experienced Sexual Harassment when I was a young
boy. In Korea, I visited a public bath with my friend. We were naked in the
public bath. And we took shower, jumped into a cool temperature pool and hung
out there. Then, there was an old man who approached us, and he touched my
penis. It was a very short time happening and I could not react anything at
the moment when he touched my penis. Because it was in too sudden, I did not
have any feeling but back to my friends and played still. But whenever I try to
remind this situation, I can clearly remember how it happened. It means that this
situation becomes my trauma. Back then, I was too young to think what just
happen and reasonably react to the situation. So, I did nothing against his
touching.
If this situation happens
to me again, I will try to avoid someone’s touching hands first. And in case I missed it, I will try to grab him and call the police. I would check if
there were any CCTV or cameras that captured the situation and get those videos or
images as evidence of the crime. Hence, I can use them at the court to fire a lawsuit
against him. If I cannot solve this issue in this way, I may start arguing with
that sexual harasser on my own.
